Vermact 12 is a widely used antiparasitic medicine containing Ivermectin 12 mg as its active ingredient. It is primarily prescribed to treat a variety of parasitic infections such as intestinal strongyloidiasis, onchocerciasis, and scabies. One of the most common questions patients have about this medication is whether it can be taken on an empty stomach or with food. The timing of intake can influence the drug’s absorption and overall effectiveness in the body.
Taking Vermact 12 with or without food can slightly change how much of the drug is absorbed into the bloodstream. Studies have shown that when Ivermectin is taken with a fatty meal, its absorption increases significantly. This means that taking the medicine after a meal may enhance its effectiveness, as more of the active ingredient becomes available in your system to fight parasitic infections. However, taking it on an empty stomach doesn’t make it unsafe; it might just slightly reduce its efficiency.
Doctors generally recommend taking Vermact 12 after a meal to ensure maximum absorption and better results. Since the medicine acts systemically—meaning it spreads throughout the body—it’s important to follow your doctor’s dosage instructions carefully. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water and avoid crushing or chewing it. The exact timing and dosage depend on the type of infection being treated, your body weight, and your medical condition. For some infections, a single dose may be sufficient, while others might require follow-up doses after a few days or weeks.
